So, it depends on dog. Shephards are easier to work with usually , are good at most aspects. The very best are usually the top Dobes because they have that combo of speed and power and have Rott bred into them, as well as Shephard (Old GSD). What makes them act fearless is the terrier in them (like Pits), Dobes have outstanding noses, the greatest dry tracking was done by a Dobe in S. Africa. Dobes are hyper-alert, Marines slept in foxholes in Guam with them. Dobe would wake by tugging string.
Dobes are very animated in attack mode. Vicious. Raised hair is warning dog is angry or alarmed. Foam from the mouth is the dog working himself up. I have trained dogs for decades and a large, alpha Dobe can strike so hard they can shatter your kneecap or fracture your femur. The dogs break hold on signal, not voice, and the professional protection Dobes and Shephards can cost big $. The dogs protecting the billionaire estates. Dobes are high strung alert sentry dogs, and need hard exercise
why dont they use belgian malinois who cares about the looks .boxers too , they have a powerfull grab they wont let u run.what about the doberman’s bite? some say its a coward bite
Dobes were used by Nazis to nuteualize, and were US Marine combat dogs Malinois are great police dogs. Boxers nice, you need scissor bite to do protection work. Pits and Boxers hold -can be easily punched, stabbed, shot. Dobes have longer canine teeth. They strike with the force of a man’s punch. Dobes were bad mouthed in 70s, like Pits today. Large Doberman can take a finger off at digit or bite dog ears off clean Knew trainer lost 2 fingers, has scar on neck – lightning fast unstable Dobe
wich technique is better dobe or gsd?
that last dobie has got his hair up on his butt and hackles…..that dog is NOT confident…..he should also be able to be called off not have to be pulled off……not good
you’re right. dobes seem to be too nervous nowadays [although the movie is old]
They are. My dobe is very nervous all the time and her hair stands up. She’s lacking the confidence I really wanted in her.
And that dobe looks very neurotic — he has his hair gotten up, what’s more, his eyes are rather full of panic than self-confidence… he moves like he was stopping an elephant, not just a human …
Dobes in attack mode are different than other breeds. They were bred to “flip” on like a switch, and the best guard dogs become benign to pain. They bear their teeth, snarl and bark until they have saliva flying everywhere. Its the combo of terrier, rottie and greyhound bred into the breed that makes them act so crazy. But they do get worked up, which is why in the 60s and 70s they said Dobies turned “vicious”. A Dobe about to attack will have his hackles and hair up. Check the breed standard.
